The Harimandir Sahib is also known as the Golden Temple, and is the holiest site to the Sikhs. Unlike most of India’s other religions, Sikhism is a relatively new religion, founded in the fifteenth century by Guru Nanak. The Golden Temple was built in Amritsar in 1588 and houses the Adi Granth, Sikhism’s holiest text.
